I'm currently contemplating repowering my 94' 16SL to a yam 90 2 stroke/ vs the current 70 yam 2 stroke. A couple of quick points....
Alone in the boat I run approx 38 mph @5800 rpm.
I'm currently running a yam SS prop.
With a full load wishfull whaler owners it's probably closer to the low 30's.
My question....would the additional 20 hp make a significant in overrall performance? Also, in all my original whaler publications this boat was indicated to have a hp rating of 100, but the actual plate in the boat indicates a rating of 90 hp. What's up with that?

Lucky, using a formula for max top speed (discussed in "Reference" section) I calculate your gross weight to be approx 2000 lbs (using constant "K" = 200 for semi V/flat bottom). Now, add maybe 50lbs exra and plug in 90hp and the predicted max top speed is approx 42mph. How accurate? Depends on how accurate your 38mph is because that's the driver for my calculations! Oh yes, as far as I know, your hull has always been rated for 90hp max... Happy Whalin'... Clark.. Spruce Creek Navy

On page 19 of cetacea there's a photo of a 16SL with a 90HP Johnson hanging in the back. I think the owner's e-mail is posted over there. Maybe he can give you some performance figures...
