Was really excited about finding this forum. As a new member, I asked five questions about my 13.4 Whaler and only got ONE RESPONCE. These questions were important to me. Why did this happen? GOOD-BYE--Giles--

Giles, I guess you are due a refund on the membership fee you paid to get on here?

Remember, the responses are free and from volunteers, not paid help. There's a lot to be learned here, but you cannot DEMAND satisfaction.

Giles,

Best not to despair or give up. Sometimed things get answered and sometimed not. For instance, I should probably be working now and not replying to you, but I am. You can never tell if the few people who might have an answer for you are maybe busy, miss the forum for a few days etc. I have gotten a virtual goldmine of info here; you just need to have patience and persevere !

Ciao,

Ron

I meant "somtimes" both times. Damn fingers have minds of their own sometimes...

Giles.

I think the problem is in the manner of presentation.

See my reply to your post.

Giles,

You will get more response if you keep in mind that this is the beginning of fishing/boating season for many on the forum. The most responses seem to be on Monday & Tuesday. A post on Sunday night will be on top Monday morning. A post on Wednesday or Thursday will be six inches down by the following Monday.

I would also suggest no more than two questions per post (one is better).

Sometimes the topic determines the response. Remember your post is competing with a lot of others! Try being creative like this: "Leggy Blonde needs advice with 13 footer"! Also check to see if your question was already covered in past posts.

Never scared

Giles, keep in mind that this forum as any other, may seem to be dominated by a few self-importatnt wind-bags that are probably retired and have nothing better to do than bless us with teir vast expertise of nearly every subject. Be patient, my young compatriot! Post your ignored missive again, be more specific, mention the words "water in foam" and I'm sure you will have a ton of responses.
If that fails, go to your local dealer.

Ah, Ernie!

"How sharper than a serpent's tooth is a thankless child."

I am sure your benefactors appreciate your gratitude for their free assistance and advice.

And what, sir, do you claim to have contributed to your fellow Whalers?? That is, other than your cynical trolls?

The key to getting responses on this or any other forum is to be specific in the topic line. It is like the newspaper, if the headline is about something I am interested in or know about, I look at the article. I have gotten responses on things as specific as screw sizes within in a few hours or less. Kelly

Hey Giles,
Sorry to hear that one part of the universe doesn't circle around you. I suspect that you are just another of the throngs of the "me, what about me" group. The knowledge and advice that abounds on this Forum is priceless. The participants of this Forum, particularly the regulars, take the time to help those of us that are lacking in knowledge and ability in certain areas and dispense info that would be hard to gain anywhere else. I also doubt that you would abandon the Forum in that there is just too much free info available. Hope you take some time and adjust your attitude, appreciate what you're given.

Giles,
The FORUM seems to work fairly well for several thousand Boston Whaler owners who visit it over a million times each month.

Every message posted to it is treated exactly the same way by the FORUM software mechanism. There is no priority or emphasis added or detracted. Every post gets the same deal.

The goal of the website has been to collect and produce high-quality content in the various subject areas of its concern. To that end it seems to be succeeding.

Best of luck to you,

What a rare occurance: a dissatisfied poster. I have found the forum to be very helpful, and I hope that Giles doesn't give up. While I don't recall his postings, I might offer a suggestion. If it's a topic that's recently been covered extensively, the members might be less likely to reply once again to the same topic. There's lots of information available for those that are willing to do a search.

Finally, the fact that the publisher replied to this thread with his suggestions shows the amount of effort and concern that he has put into the forum. I believe that he and his website have been very successful. Thanks, Jim.
