I just had the water pump replaced and noticed my first time out that no water was coming out of the back end at idle. Even going down the channel I saw nothing. Once in the lake at cruising speed - water came out normal. When I was done boating I took the cover off and felt the block - it was cool. Is this normal - I never noticed before. I would have thought water would come out at idle? It is a 1977 200 HP Johnson.

Thanks

I believe it should start pumping after about 5 seconds even at idle. I would try again to see if it will "pee" at idle, call your mechanic if not and explian to him. A newer model pump on an older motor may require more compression than your motor puts out at idle but I would not think this to be desirable.
