I am looking at a 1997 115 hp Yahama to put on my 1968 16 7 sakonett. Any comments on performance, fuel economy or problems with the 115. Should my Morse controls and a 13x 17 prop for a 1970 Johnson 85 hp work with the Yahama?

With a 34-year-old boat I would think exceeding the horsepower limit (100-HP) is not wise.

In 1968 a "100-HP" engine was the equivalent of about an 85-HP today in terms of shaft horsepower and weight.

Or, an 1997 115-HP is the equivalent of a 1968 135-HP. So you're 35% over rating on a 34-year old boat.

There is no telling on the prop. First it would have to fit the shaft and have suitable thrust washers and retaining nut.

Jim is right on the mark! A 115 Yamaha is a potent motor and will be a handful to handle on a 16'7" hull! Clark... SCN
