The prop currently on the boat is a SS and has the identification "19-K" stamped on the prop. Everything seems to work fine, but I think I need a lower pitch prop. Cannot get rpms over the low to mid 4000's, and even at idle speed, the boat is moving along a little faster than I would like making handling in tight places interesting. From the posts I have read, many people use a "17". Is it going to make that much difference gong with ss vs aluminum? Should I go with a Yamaha prop, or is aftermarket just as good or better? Which aftermarket?

The "standard" Yamaha prop that comes with motors of this type is typically the black Stainless Steel.

Most people would use this prop at the 17" pitch level. This should put you in the RPM range you seek, assuming that the engine is not mounted too low on the transom.

Check Ebay for good deals on used Props..

Good Luck,

Have your prop repitched. They can drop it 2" for about $50.
