Anyone ever seen a 76mph Whaler?

At Piranha Pat's Flannigans in Pompano Beach, they have a picture of a 22 Outrage with twin 220 Merury Lasers going over 70 MPH. The owner of the boat used to go in front of Shooters, trim up the motors, hit the throttles and the boat would porpoise completely out of the water. It was amazing.

My 15' with a 70 would pop the prop out if you did that. My Montauk is too heavy, even with the 115. I think a 13' would just flip:)

The picture of that boat is unreal. A 15 would jump like that? Impressive, did you shave your heads?

BigShot,
Ha Ha, I meant on your motor...Anyway, look at how bad the guy from Bennett marine crushed me on the 18 Outrage Doel-fin performance page. I had to swallow a little pride but the guy was right and I had to rethink what I said. The tabs do work well, their switches had some problems a few years ago

A Vengeance is a 3 blade Merc prop....

Oops, my bad, went out to the shop, it is a renegade not a vengeance. Thanks. Dunk you said you put tabs on your Montauk, ever put them on a 13? My Dad said they work great on that boat as well.

Never on a 13 Whaler....but right now I own a 14ft Carolina Skiff. Like an idiot I traded a 16ft Lowe alum jonboat for it new. I only use it to run my antique engines on. The CS is the worse boat on the planet. Anything over a 6" chop into the wind you need a scuba tank to run the boat.

I have 1949 Evinrude Big Four 50hp that I run on the Carolina Skiff. The engine is 4 cylinders opposed, meaning two cylinders sticking out to each side. The engine was made to push a 8 man platoon to the beaches in the South Pacific during WWII. It's called a Stormboat motor. Hooked up and without too much wind I've seen 43mph on the GPS, but it's too sensitive to the tiller steering arm. Any movement at that speed and the boat chinewalks and get out of shape. You only open her up when you know you have no waves or wind coming your way.

Anyway, I did put trim tabs on that boat. I made them out of epoxy coated plywood with stainless and alum turnbuckles. Once adjusted they keep the bow from getting to light, but most of all they help the boat get on plane.

Don't get me wrong, I hate the CS...it's piece...POS. My first boat a 1964 13 Whaler is still owned by a guy here in town, an old guy and he knows I want it back. I may have to wait till he rolls a 7....I really want to see how the Stormboat engine will push it..

That storm motor sounds like it has some real history. I bet it would push a small hydro very well.

Bocaspiff - A "Renegade" is an OMC prop, not a Merc.

I had a CS 14' with a center console and a 30 Yamaha. What a POS. With that 30 it would only run 30 on the GPS. Anything more than a 2" chop and out came the tank or the kidney belt. Amazing they sold more than a dozen of those.
