There are salt deposits and greasy sludge all over the inside of my engine. What is the best way to clean this up?

Is it good to spray it with CRC or WD-40 on a regular basis?

Yes, spray it with CRC or WD-40. I prefer CRC. Helps reduce corrosion. After each use I spray my engine down until it has that wet look.

Simple Green and rinse well

Degrease it once a year and then spray everything with silicone spray. Just be careful when degreasing not to degrease your linkages etc, I also like Simple Green as a good enviro friendly cleaner. They do make biodegradable degreasers as well. I only do this once per season, I do not think it is a good idea to hose your engine and electrical componets on a regular basis.
