I have a 15 sport with a 84 Johnson 70 that is showing it age. (18 years of hard play). I'm looking to repower it. Should I get another 70? I use it to go tubing and water sking with my two son's. (9 & 8)

LAKE G,
THE 70HP YAHAMA WAS BUILT FOR THE 15' WHALER.
I BOUGHT A 70 IN 1985 AND IT'S STILL GOING STRONG.

I have been wrestling with the same question and after polling this site a couple of times have found everyone feels the power to weight ratio of the 2-cycle yamaha is best. When I told that to the local dealer in Burlington Vt. he said "I dont want you to buy a 2 cycle and have the state ban them on small lakes" He seemed pretty sure that was likely the way things are headed around here since the state already scraped all thier 2 cycles. He praised the 60 4 stroke yamaha. I'm not sure there is a 4 stroke 70 you can put on that boat to ski with or if there ever will be one built thats light enough. Anybody out there happen to know?
