I just got an 87 Montauk and it's got a Merc 60hp on it that runs fine, but slow. Is there any thing I can do to get more speed out of it until I get a 90 for it?

The answer is no. I had a Johnson 60 on my Montauk and it worked fine but it was just plain slow at WOT. I have a new 90 on the back-no comparison.

I agree... I had a 55 hp on my Nauset... Was great for fishing but not good for water sports (skiing)... I now have a 85hp and find it made all the difference needed...

What top speed and RPM are you getting?
I can get 33 mph with the 50 4 stroke on my Montauk.

That 60 is a lame 60. I had the 70 equivelent on my 15' and it did 36+. I put a 70 Johnson on it and she ran just over comparison. That 60 and my 70 were the old 65hp 3 cyl which just did not have a lot of punch. Try rebuilding the carbs, helped mine some.
