I am wanting more [horsepower] for my [19]99 [M]ontauk. I have a 90 [Y]amaha now and I am wondering if anyone has tried a 120 {Y]amaha 4 stroke and how do [I] get around the plate that says 100-HP max. Would a jump of only 10-HP and 4-stroke be worth the money. |

Keep reading the performance posts my friend. You will see that without going over the 100-HP max the only way to get more speed and power is the Johnson or Evinrude 90-HP. 2 strokes, 4 cylinders of screamin' power! |

I am quite confused by your questions. First, there is no Yamaha 4-stroke with 120-HP rating. Also, if you have a 90-HP engine now, an increase of 10-HP ("would a jump of only 10-HP...) would be 100-HP, not 120-HP. The topic of re-powering options for MONTAUK model Whalers has been discussed many, many times. I think you could gain considerable insight into the Montauk repowering situation by reading them. The discussion of maximum horsepower ratings has also been widely discussed. You don't "get around" the ratings; you buy additional insurance to match the engines and boat you have. You may have to do the installation yourself as dealers will be reluctant to power a boat above the rated horsepower. The value of 4-stroke engines and their monetary "worth" versus 2-stroke engines has also been discussed at length in a recent posting.( http://continuouswave.com/ubb/Forum4/HTML/001019.html [Changed TOPIC; was "new power"--jimh] |

ray, you should know from experience now that the new Johnson 90 2 stroke is just a repackaged Saturn V rocket. |
