Has anyone had experience with a tohatsu 70 TLDI on a 15? Is that motor as reliable as it claims? It looks like the lightest clean 70 that also has hole shot. Is 317 lbs a mistake on that transom? Should you go to the 90 TLDI same weight to pull skiers?

I have the standard Tohatsu 70 (year 2000 or 2001?) on my 15. I would not worry about the weight, but if hole shot is that important, try the 90 Yamaha. The TLDI looks like a short term solution. If clean is your main issue, try an injected 4-stroke (ie Suzuki or OMC). For under 100 to 150 hours/year, the standard 70 will keep you smiling.
Mine runs like a top, if I could change anything, it would be to jump to 90hp. I almost always have 5+ people in my boat. The extra juice would be great.

Has anyone had an engine on a 15 that weighed "too much?" I wonder what the Suzuki DF70 would be like at 359 pounds. Does anyone have first-hand knowledge?

That 359 has been confirmed as a misprint. It is actually 338 or 342.
