Motor has 81 hrs. Last week after a run fished a cove 20-30- min and motor started for a moment then died. Could not restart with any method. Cranked but would not fire. Tried everything. next day started ok cold.
mid morning, same scenario. Had to return with kicker. Plugs showed black and wet.???

JCL, sounds like engine was flooded! These 4 cyl 100hp Mercs idle (and crank) on two cyls so for a hot/warm restart try lifting the mini-throttle just a hair! Also these engines have an accelerator pump so if you move the throttle lever into forward just before starting that pump may give a squirt and may be cause of flooding... just some thoughts... Happy Whalin'.. Clark.. SCN PS> if you flood engine, lift mini-throttle lever full up (with side mount control/neutral throttle with binicle) and crank engine over for about 10 seconds... this will likely purge the rich mixture... then return throttle to normal start position and try again...has worked for me!

Try a new battery. Mercs have to spin fast and if they spin just under what they need, you'll get that scenerio.
