The guy who is repowering my 1973 19'0utrage
just called and said he needs to know what prop to put on so he can finish up the job. Can any one tell me what prop to tell him so I have a starting point from which to work? He is installing a 175 Merc. short shaft. I realize there are a bunch of things that must be taken into consideration, but I need a ballpark idea for now.
Thanks in advance,
Al

Somewhere between first and third.
I would refer him to the nearest Merc Dealer so that way it will take any liability off of you. Ballpark ideas are always bad but can you give info as to the year of Whaler and exact year and model of the engine?

Sorry, I meant just the engine year and model. I see the outrage is a 73.
Try a 14 3/4 x 21

Mercury prop charts would indicate a 21" prop. With a hull that light and that much HP, I'd recommend a performance line SS prop, such as a Laser II. The engine should be mounted in the 3rd (middle) holes.

That thing is going to run, about 55mph if I am correct and the engine is in good shape.
