Does any one have experience with modifying a 3 liter V-6 Merc/Mariner Engine to get more power? What are the modifications and what is the approximate cost? Do they affect engine life. Thanks. JIM

Check out the Merc Performance Division products... they make lots of speed/power booster products for the 2.4 and 2.5 liter blocks and most likely also for the 3 liter! The 2.4 can be boosted to around 300hp but this is for racing at 7-8 thousand rpm.. Anytime you boost hp you give up something, low end torque, smooth idle etc.... right off the bat you could move reed stops back a bit (get some Merc bass pro shop advice), install fiberglas reeds, swing timing up a bit and rejet carbs (unless EFI). If EFI you may find a performance chip for the ECM or even a performance ECM replacement! Not a good idea to increase compression ratio!!! Just some ramblin' thoughts. Clark |

I have the 3 ltr EFI. Let me know what you find. I'm interested in reed plates, maybe a chip. What do you have the motor on? How fast are you now? |
