I exchanged a Mariner 60 for a Honda 50 (same block as the Honda 40) and my gas mileage is easily double what the 2-stroke was, better than double when I idle and troll a lot. In all fairness the 2-stroke was a 1988 and the 4-stroke is a 1999, both are carbureted. Overall it was definitely worth the upgrade in my opinion. I have absolutely zero complaints about the performance of the 4-stroke.

One note: Honda uses chrome plated bolts under the hood and they start to rust quickly. I've been spraying under the hood with silicone after every use and this has basically stopped the rust. I hear that Yamaha doesn't have this issue. I would have no problems buying either Honda or Yamaha, I don't think you can go wrong with either.

Hi, Didge.

There are no losers in that power range.

My choice would be the Johnson/Suzuki 40 or 50 EFI 4 stroke, or the Merc 50 EFI 4 stroke.
