Anyone have experience with one of these?

I had a 1998 Ventura with a 135 hp Optimax, the Opti blew the powerhead at 20 hours so the boat was traded. However, the boat was very functional, rode well and I had it offshore SE Fla a number of times. Great family boat with plenty of fish room.I added a salt water washdown, matter of fact the dealer I traded in to had it sold just about the time I left the showroom. Consider that the model changed somewhere around 2000 with a different inner hull, less fishability.

I have 180 2001 that has a 150 Mercury Optimax and I like it except for one factor; I have to keep the engine trimmed totally down to stop porpoising. This causes it to steer like a truck because we are "pushing the bow" into the water I guess. Whaler is going to install some 9" trim tabs on it now to see if the problem is solved. After I bought the boat I heard from other previous Whaler dealers that this was a problem with this model. I cannot complain though; I test drove the boat with the salesman in the stern for an hour and a half running it any way I wanted to. I did not notice this poblem until after I bought the boat. I have a 100 hours on it now.

Is the factory installing the tabs for you when it is a 2001? I purchased a 1998 18 Ventura with a Honda 130 do you think I will have the same problem?

I have a 2001 Daunt 18. I think the ventura and daunt 18 hulls are very similar, if not the same.

I have this problem too and am considering trim tabs.

Did Whaler recommend Bennett hydraulic tabs or Lenco electric?

They may be similar but not the same, never had any trim, porpoise issues on my 1998 18' Ventura but the model changed I believe in 2000 to the 'less functional' hull.
