Need some help with choice of spark plugs. I have a regular 1987 Johnson 150 that has Champion plugs in it. They need to be changed out this spring. I don't have the manuel for the motor as I am not the first owner. Our local OMC dealer is gone. Any advice on correct plug and gap?

For a 1988 Johnson 150, the recommended sparkplugs for sustained low speed/normal operation are QL77JC4 (alternate is L77JC4) with a gap of 1.0mm (0.040").

That is according to the manual that came with my 1988 Johnson 150's (copyright 1987).

This site provides spark plug recommendations for Evinrude/Johnson engines.

Although they recommended the same plug as Barry, they specified a 0.030" gap. In fact, it looks like the biggest gap listed for any of their engines is 0.35".

They also say that a "QL" plug is recommended for engines with a VRO, which is maybe why Barry's resource listed the 2 plugs.
