I am thinking of buying an 11 sport to replace my small alum fishing boat. I have a 15 yamaha 2 stroke, any guesses on speed? Also is $1000 a good price for an 11 in good shape? Not sure of the year. Thought an 11 would look nice in the yard next to the 15 sport. My wife will not go out in the small (13) alum boat since we got the whaler 15.

I've got a 1975 11' sport with remote steering. I've got a 15hp Mercury on it. My Mercury only has 17 hours on it so its like new.
Never have I felt underpowered with this motor. If you will be using the boat alone it should really move. I'm about 110 pounds and when am alone I can keep up with most boats in the harbor.

I'm not able to get on a plane with more then 2 people in the boat. If you and your wife are fairly lean people the boat will plane with the two if you. Top speed is around 20mph. I find that when I'm alone its best to use a longer gas line and put that tank near that bow. The boat plane's much faster this way and give you a dryer ride in chop.

1,000 is a great price for that boat if the motor is ok. Does the hull have bottom paint? What year is the Yamaha? Does the boat have tiller steering or remote?Give us some more info on the boat and someone will tell you if the price is right. If sounds good to me. Iíve got more then one grand in my 11.

I could tell you a lot about the 11' hull. Feel free to email my with any questions.

Now that is what I call a question that 11 footer was made to answer. He has the monopoly on info for the 11 footer with a 15hp.

20 hp

Remote is 20hp and the max tiller is 15hp.
I used my 15hp when I first got on with a tiller for about three hours. I did not like the feel, the boat felt overpowered, Once I got the remote back if was a match made in heaven.

If you are going to use a tiller I would not put anything over 9.9hp on it.

The new 20 hp Honda would be a dream power plant. It weighs something like 102 pounds.

The 11 is rated for 10hp with a tiller.

Hope to go to look at it today. The story is that I have not seen the boat and the price is for the boat only. I was told about it last Friday and it is about 90 miles away. I do not know if there is a trailer or what else is included. I have a performance trainer that my 13 fisher alum is on that I hope will fit. The 15 yamaha is about 2 years old and runs great. So it should move the 11.
11 footer, how stable is the 11 for fishing in small creeks? Is the draft really 6". My 15 draft seems to be about 12" even though it is listed at 8".

Its very stable, you won't have a problem there. I've never measured that draft before. Six inches sounds about right but like I said, I've never really checked it out or put a whole lot of thought into the draft.

As for the price, does the one grand price include the motor? If its for a bare hull and no trailer its a fair price but not a steel.

No motor included. Just got the info on location and my wife is loading the truck. Let you know what I find out re: year and shape. Also price may not be firm, as it is at a surplus marine supplies and boat yard... You know, cash talks.

Saw the 11'. No wood in boat. Hull looked in good shape. I will talk to the shop owner Monday or Tuesday. Took some pictures.

No wood on that hull is no biggie, use starboard instead. Sounds like a $5-700 hull.

Not.

You can configure it as a tender for about $200. if you do the finishing.

If you want a Sport or SS, figure more like $500 before it is done. Then buy the steering, rails, etc.

I've got a local guy that did woodwork on my 11' for 150.00. Do you want his number?

The a worker at the boat yard told me the price was $1000. I am waiting for the owner to get back with me to see if he will negotiate. I am thinking $7 - 800. I can do the wood work. I have a custom hardwood shop here in town. I redid my 15 sport and had to rebuild my console and seat back. Does anyone have 11' wood plans (drawings or good photos)? We'll see if this pans out.

remember that finding 11 foot whalers are like finding hens teeth!!! I finally put an ad in the paper looking for one and luckily someone saw it, and I found one that was sitting in a garage locally. I also found another whaler the same way. They are really rare, and hardly ever for sale. Keep that in mind. Someone may be there an hour later with cash also..........good luck,.squallman
