Forgive me if this has been previously mentioned. This unit is DSC capable and Waterproof. It can be had for under $100.00 on some internet electronics sites. There is a $25.00 rebate from JRC through March 31st.
Great starter VHF for around $75.00

"waterproof" or "submersible". Waterproof means
it's kinda sorta splashproof and they will
replace it on warantee if it gets wet inside.
Submersible means 3' for 30 minutes. If it's
on the console, you want submersible.

The new Standard Horizone Quest not much more
money, and submersible.

The JRC is a good unit, they make alot of parts for Furuno and Raytheon. But when it comes to VHF, I will only put my families life and my life on a Standard or An Icom. A VHF is something I would not look for a bargain for, same with the ant.

I agree that you should not buy a product soley on price. I posted this radio because it is a good value. That being said it does have limitations as do all electronics which a perspective buyer should become familiar with and base thier purchase on their specific needs. Icom and Standard are very good unit's I have the the M502 with a Digital 528 4'antenna. I bought the jrc as a back up with DSC. Waterproof is okay for me as my electronics are not out in the open.
