Can anyone tell me if there are any differences between a 2000 and 2003 Mercury 90 HP ELPTO motor?
Thanks, Howard

Thanks Bigshot.
That's what I thought.
Am buying the 2000 with 25 hours freshwater use and 90 days left on Mercury warranty for $4200 w/ prop. Have been told of Ed's new for about $5300 w/ shipping and prop, but figure it is not worth $1100 to say I have a 2003. What do you think?

Howard, if it was me I would probably go with the 2003. And the reason is for the warranty. I think it is a two years, but there is a promotion now for longer warranty. It seems that if the motor is going to go out, it will in the 1-2 years. After that you are good. 90 days is not very long. 3 years is a long time for a motor to situp and not being run. Just my opinion. Archie

I believe mercury is not offering the deal of 3 year warranties on Classic 2 strokes. I believe it is on 4 s,Optimax and EFI Series

That is correct.
1 year on a new 2003 90 Classic.
Has anyone had any trouble with a fairly new 90 2 stroke?
My 18 year old 90 Mariner has given me no real trouble in 12 years.

I just put a 2003 merc on last summer. The only problem is that the lower unit oil was a littel milky when I changed it for winter storage, so I will need to get it looked at. Warranty is only 1 yr as stated above.

Thanks for the information on that forum Jimm about Ed's. It was very interesting. Certainly the postings from the local clientele in VA who bought from them were eye opening. Usually if something seems to good to be true..........
