What is the lenght position and number of bunks used on 16'&7" whalers pre smirk trailer? All 2 x 6" by what ? How long is the bottom and the sides. Do all go to the complete reat of boat for transom support/ Does any on use a roller as well forward?

Bob,

Boston Whaler and many people here believe the Keel Roller Trailer is the best... I do too..

On both of my Trailers, one for a 17' Montauk, and one for an Outrage 18, every cross member has a 10" or 12" Keel Roller. 3 Keel rollers on both of my trailers plus a small (5") keel roller on the "nose" of my Outrage 18..

Both Trailers have all 2"x 6" Bunks. 2 bunks are 10 feet long nearer the center and 2 bunks are 5 feet long futher out..

The boat should rest on the last keel roller and overhang an inch or two... All my bunks overhang the last crossmember by about 3 inches...

The majority of the weight is carried by the Keel Rollers and just a small amount by the bunks...

There is an excellent article in the reference section on trailers including the Keel Roller and Float On style....

You just opened my favorite can of worms.
My Montauk loves its bunk trailer, support is great and launch and load is easy.

Boston Whaler has seen the light as well, all of the factory packaged units come on a bunk trailer with no keel support.

I'm sending you an e-mail with a picture attached. The picture isn't great but it should give you an idea of bunk placement.

Dick
