I bought a 13.1 sport with Yamaha 25 hp 2-stroke short shaft engine. I use it in salt water in Greece. The speed was ok with one person (adult) but with 3 (adults) very very poor. Unfortunately the Yamaha sized so I am thinking of buying a 30 Hp 2-cylinder long shaft. Will it be ok for 4 persons?

If it requires a short shaft(old blue), you can't use a long shaft. 5hp won't do squat but a 3cyl 30hp would, just get a 40hp. PS they are 13'4".

Ti kanes?

If you get a great deal on the long shaft you can use it with a jack/standoff plate, but Bigshot is right it won't be that much difference with 5 more hp. However with the jack plate height adjustment and experimenting with props you may see a difference . Good luck.

Thank you all for your answers to my questions. As I can see you speak Greek also.
Unfortunately the short shaft is not suitable for the boat (as instructed by Boston Whaler), My boat is M.Y. 87 13.4 ft.
So I will follow bigshot view and buy a 3cyl 30 hp.
May the jack/standoff plate, be applicable for reverse use that is: to use short shaft engine instead of the proper long shaft?

nven, if you install a jack or set-back bracket which moves engine back at least 5" you can use a 15" shaft motor on mounted at conventional height (on your 20" transom) and it will work well and have very shallow draft. I have done this on several 13's and one of them is shown on page 28 of Cetacea. Happy Whalin'.. Clark... Spruce Creek Navy

Huh?

What Clark said is you can buy a jackplate and use your current engine. Or you can buy a new engine in 20" shaft, no need to sell the boat.

thank you all,

but my story is sad, I do not have a car anymore because someone crashed into it and destroyed it and his insurance hasn't paid me yet (no trailoring ability. Second my engine (25 hp) needs new pistons due to overheating.
I am desperate I need engine and Car and I have no money.
Is there a Boston Whaler Fund?
