Just mounted a 115 4S MERC on a Montauk. Running a 19" Ballistic and getting 43 mph @ 5300 rpm's medium load. Should be running 5500-6000 rpm's according to "experts." Does anyone have a similar boat/motor set-up, and what propeller/pitch works best for you? I am also open to any suggestions or advice. Thank you.

What year Montauk?

The Montauk is model year 2000. The problem might be with the motor not opening up fully at the top end and not the prop selection. I ran a 90 4 stroke MERC on the boat before and got the almost the same top end speed. So, I suspect that something is amiss. Would appreciate any comments. Thanks.

I'm running the Vengence prop that came on the 90 HP 4 stroke. It's now on a 115 HP 4 stroke on a new Montauk 170 with a top speed GPS of 50.3 MPH. Actually the prop had a little nick in it so I had it redone over the winter. I will see this year if it ups the top speed.

What pitch is the Vengance that you are running on the 115 4-S? The speed sounds about right. Mine is still new, but it does not seem to have any power/speed at the top end. Hopefully, it will only be a minor adjustment. Thanks for you response.

I doubt you will get 50 on a montauk. My 76 had a 115 and it did maybe 46 on a good day and that was a 2 stroke.

Hey bigshot are you doubting me? ;-) Unless Sadam has interrupted the satalites........ then my Garmin 2006c is acurate and it says top speed 50.3 MPH.

Both of you are correct! I understand that the 170 Montauk has less wetted surface on plane and consequently, will reach a higher speed. I"m still trying to the older design hull to go faster. Anyway, thanks to both of you for the inputs.
