I am looking to buy a new 21' outrage. The dealer is pushing the 175 HP Mecury Opti-Max. Is this enough engine for the boat? I will be using it on the North shore of Long Island (Lond Island Sound). Typical load will be 5 adults.

I would prefer the MercYam 225 4 stroker, good reliability and economy and more horsies. I don't think the 175 with a full load, 5 people and equipment would be adequate.I had a 21' ventura with a 200 hpdi and I could have used some more ponies.

With 5 adults & only a 175 hp, your going to really run that engine hard to get the boat to perform as it should.
My vote is 225 - DFI 2 stroke.

I owned a 21' Outrage 1996 with a 225, and with it fully loaded it was still slow to plane. These boats are heavy, the 175hp motor is not going to give you that great of performance. Probably around 30-32 mph wide open and sluggish in rough water. These other gentlemen are right, get a 225 or 200 DFI motor.

I have a 2002 210 Outrage and I love it. It's powered by a Yamaha 200HPDI. WOT is 47mph and cruise is 2900rpm/30mph. I don't knwo that I would go less than 200 hp. It is a heavy boat.

Respondents are not talking about the same boat that the original poster is asking about.

He is talking about a 210-OUTRAGE, not
a 21' Outrage.

I'll delete this mess and move it where it belongs later.
