my son bought a 17ft with a 90 hp tohatsu from an older gentleman.I dont know why but the motor has a hydrofoil and does perform well. Can we remove the hydrofoil to eliminate drag for better performance.I have owned a 17 with a 70 hp and it performed well.If so can and should the holes in foot be filled.

I do not feel the need for a foil on a 17. Remove it and see if you like it. Don't bother filling in the holes. you can if ya want but it won't do anything. If you do fill use a good epoxy or better yet JB Weld. |

The foil will help holeshot a bit, especially towing skiiers or wakeboarders, and let you stay on plane at a lower speed. Why do you want to remove it if performance is good as you report? Bigshot is right you probably don't need it, but it isn't hurting you. Drag is really not an issue if the motor is mounted at the correct height. |
