My 40 Yamaha is acting strangely. After running at WOT, if I cut the throttle quickly, it sometimes runs very poorly, like it is running lean. Full throttle gets me hardly any speed. If I shut it down and wait a minute, it runs fine. There is no alarm, and no other indication of problem. What gives? I rebuilt the carbs recently, did I miss something?

Are there any other symptoms of a failing fuel pump I can look for? This is the only problem I am having with the boat. Actually- that is not true- it seems to have a little more trouble trolling these days ... HMMMM maybe you are onto something. Thanks.

Check to make sure all fuel filters and screens are clean. My 150 did the same thing, only worse. It turned out to be a dirty fuel screen which was 'in' the fuel pump.

I am going to check the filter-thank you. I did just install a water filter. I forgot to put teflon tape on the threads, and didn't snug down the hoses with anything, just pushed them on. After a lot of research, I think this might solve the problem- I HOPE. Will let you know.
