My engine seems to make a funny sound at about 3500 rpm? It is fine higher or lower. Do these engines have a point were they kick in and out the different cylinders?

No, but higher horsepower 2 strokes often have an rpm where harmonics develope. I would avoid that rpm and not worry about it further. Glad to hear you had such a great trip. I havent had my boat long enough to give you feedback on your speed questions. Since I bought my boat it has been too windy/rough to use much.

Check for a vibration (sympathetic) source like cowling latches, harness/clamps...etc. also check/retighten engine mounting bolts!!!! Happy Whalin'.. Clark.. SCN
