I recently and happily became the new owner of a 21 ft outrage, with a 1986 - 225 yamaha V6EXCEL outboard and looking for some help;
- for a compression test, what numbers would indicate that the motor is running well?
- is a compression test hard to do?

If you check your Yamaha operating manual it will describe the prodedure to perform a compression test. At least, I should say, they included that information in the operating manual with my Yamaha engine. (Not a service manual, just the little pamphlet that comes with each engine.) The manual will also advise you about how to interpret the results.
