Hi guys -

Okay...I've finally dialed in my GPS/Sounder combo and took the boat out for a couple of days this weekend in Michigan.

Put a total of 78 miles on the boat. Burned 13.6 gallons of gas...which equates to 5.7 mpg.

The boat is a 89 15' GLS with a 95 70 HP Evinrude with VRO.

Both days boat was lightly loaded with 2 persons and gear for a day at the beach.

1st day was a 15 mile cruise to Grand Mere State Park from St. Joseph. Total round trip was 30 miles with approximately 6 miles total at "No Wake" speed in the St. Joseph River.

Second trip was north - almost to South Haven - to Van Buren State Park...again, about 6 miles total in the No Wake zone.

The rest of the trip I was cruising at between 3,300 and 3,700 RPM or at around 4,200 rpm (with the exception of a couple of stretches up the river screaming along at 5,700 RPM and 42.3 MPH!).

The question is this:

Is this type of mileage to be expected?! It seems much better than I had thought it would be.

Thanks for any insight you might have.

Dave

Very good.

I have found that the OMC 2 and 3 cylinder loopers are remarkably economical for carbed engines. Both of my Johnson 70s just sipped gas compared to the V4 crossflow engines they replaced.

Red sky at night. . .

DAve - Mileage sounds about right. With my 1971 16' Nauset and Mercury 115 in-line 6, I used to consistently get 5.0 MPG.

Normal....Just FYI.....I get between 8-10mpg with my 70 4 stroke on my Montauk, No BS. The 15' I had with a 70 OMC got about 3.5gph at 3500 and 25-28mph(48mph gps). My Montauk will do do 2.5+gph at 25-28mph. Unbelievable! When I had my 15 I though I was in heaven. When I got the montauk with the 90 Yamaha 90 and 4+gph I thought I was still in heaven. When I repowered with the 4 stroke.....I WENT to heaven.
