My 16' 69 whaler, configured as a CC w/ leaning post, received its repower in April 2003. It was originally pushed by a '62 Evinrude Commercial 60hp 2s with prop configured to a top speed of 22 mph gps. I used Merc's prop calculator to choose my new prop and plugged in the boat weight of 2000 lbs (full 22 gal. bait tank, 2 persons, 12 gals. gas, 2 batteries, trolling motor, and fishing gear). With a Merc. 14p x 10-3/8", I estimated the new WOT speed of 34 mph max.

I am presently in hour 8.5 of break-in and have jotted down these performances during hour 2 of break-in at the Long Beach Marine stadium in CA: (w/ trim in full down position)

750 rpm...3 mph
1000......4.1 mph
2000......6.2 mph
3000......11.1 mph
3500......14.7 mph
4000......20.4 mph
4500......23.1 mph
5000......28.1 mph

I have not been at WOT (6000 rpm)long enough to read the the boat speed off my small screened gps. With this load above, I am able to reach the design max rpm easily without over rev'ing. I am still getting used to the higher top end this motor provides. I will do another read of the speeds once I complete the break-in period and post if the differences are significant. (I expect them to be once I get accustomed to the operation of the motor trim). Right now the fishing is just too good. :-)

The surprise for me was the +/-8 miles per gallon this motor used. With (2)6 gal. tanks, my safe range (1-way) is now 32 miles instead of the 18 miles with the old 2s Rude.
