Just bought 1989 13 gls with a 40 hp johnson 2 cyl
it has a aluminum 11.75x 17 on it now which prop is the best for this rig. ? george viskovich

Maybe that one...what are your RPMS at WOT? If you don't have a tach, gonna be hard to answer that.

That is the same prop that I had on the Johnson 48 SPL on the 15 Sport. Although I had no tachometer at the time, I calculated that the 48 turned 5800 rpm at WOT. If the 40 is anything like the 48, it has a high gear ratio, 2.41:1. That means it can turn a high pitch propeller.

To compare, years ago my 13 Sport was powered by a 1977 Evinrude 35. The propeller I normally used was a 10 x 13. I don't believe that the gear ratio was as high as 2.41:1.
