I've got a 87 montauk with a 03 70HP Yamaha. Redline is 6000rpm and the prop is a 13.5X15 aluminum. My GPS reads 34-35 mph at 5800-5900rpms. could a different prop get the 38-39mph reported by others with a 70 HP. The engine is mounted all the way down.

If you need more speed, raise the engine so that the anti-ventilation plate is at least 1-2 inches above the bottom of the hull and try a ss prop.
