My 98 Montauk has a 90 HP merc 2 stroke the problem is i can't
get any speed out of it im lucky if i get 32 mph . I was getting 38- to 40 mph sonetimes faster . I changed the hub on the prop no change i put a SS Raptor Prop 13-1/2 - 21 it ran so bad I took the prop back. The old prop is also a 13-1/2-21.
Just can't figure out what the problem is. This boat was so fast for a 17' it was scary at top speed.

Lobo5656, I don't know how much difference there is between your 1998 Merc 90 and my 2001 Merc 90 but, I was hitting around 45 mph with a 19 pitch prop on my Montauk. Might want to try changing your prop again. Brian

I'm assuming that you have the current 84 cubic inch Merc 90 and not the 71 cubic inch version. My last 17 (a Newport model 1980) with a Merc 90hp (1996) had a 20" pitch Quicksilver Hi-Five SS prop and would swing it at 5600rpm and somewhere between 45 and 49 mph. Clark ... SCN

I have a 1992 Mercury 3 cyl 90HP on a 91 Montauk. I run a 13.25 x 19P and hit about 43 at 5600. My motor is up two holes.
