Please help. I have a 95 mercury 40 hp on my 13' whaler and this past labor day I found out that the charging system wasn't charging. I put a volt meter to the battery terminals and got a reading of 11.64 volts. After I jumped started the engine with another battery and gave it some trottle the meter reading never budged. I heard that it might be the rectifier or somethings along those lines. Is that correct? Is that something easy to replace and where on the motor is it located? I removed a large black cover on the side of the motor where all the electronics are located so I'm some what formilar with that area but I'm still not sure what needs to be replaced. Any help at all would be most appriciated. Thank you, Gary

grw66: If you have a tach, see if it's working. A blown recifier will usually cause the tach not to work. If tach works, then it could be your stator, under the flywheel. Good luck..

Thanks, but I don't have a tack. If you don't think its the rectifier then what would I be looking for under the flywheel and is it hard to repair/replace? Thank you.
