You are going to open a can of worms with this post! Some members love them...others think any outboard other than what they have is junk... I haven't heard anything bad about their motors other than they are heavy... If you are looking to buy one you need to ask some more specific questions. For instance, how many hours does the motor have? And, what type of use did it have (salt vs. fresh water, recreational vs. commercial, stored on a trailer vs. at a dock, etc)? |

To the best of my knowledge Honda does not currently make a 35 and has not made one since 1996 or 1997 but the do offer a kit to detune a 50 to 35. So if you are buying this engine I would look closely at it to determine what it really is. |

I had a 35 hp and thought it was noisy at mid-throttle (like a bad rod bearing). i had it checked out and was told it was normal. I never loved the engine.Another interesting thing was the specs for the newer 30, 40, 50 hp showed the same cc's and weight. So, i asked the dealer why the huge difference in price when all it was was different heads, carbs, cams... nothing that really added cost as the same parts existed in all engines.... his response was 'you are paying for horsepower'. To me, honda was sticking to people.... basically the same engine costing a couple of grand more. at least they could have thrown in a few extra cc's so i would think i had a different engine..... Other than that, i have a honda van, scooter, snowblower and 2 hp outboard (10 years old and still ticking like a watch). I do really like the 2 hp..... |

Hate to get in the Ford vs. Chevy thing here. I currently have a 50 HP Honda on a 15 SS LTD and like it. Probably would not have paid the price for a new one but I got a 'deal' on a 99. Jim Armstrong |
