I saw a 300hp Mercury on a "Go fast" boat today.

I never knew Mercury made a 300hp. I did not even say "Mercury" on the cowling, it only said "Merc".

Is the "Merc" 300hp is two stroke or a four stroke?

Looks like a nice powerplant for a 18-Outrage or twins for a 27whaler

"I did not even say "Mercury""

should read:
"It did not even say Mercury"

The have made it since 98. It is a 225 3.0 just beefed up. They have since upgraded the engine to the 300x that is said to make 320hp. It should be on their website

It's an EFI 2 stroke, and Mercury bills it as the highest HP consumer outboard (meaning non-racing) available today. They need 91 octane gas, however.

AT $18k an engine, most chose other avenues to repower with.

Ryan.....you post about 4 of these a week on things you never saw before that I have seen for years, you sure you don't boat on a pond in your yard? Ever read a boating magazine or go to a boat show? Just curious.

Bigshot,
Mebbe he lives on "Lake X" where Mercury does all their testing?

Ryan,
Are all the boats that you see with these motors bright yellow?

Actually, the lake is in Florida...I forget where though...

Lake X I believe is up by Crystal River area, not top secret, people know where it is, I just can't remember as well. They do however most of their testing in the Boca Grand area, you see them buzzing around all the time, or so my father-in-law says.

My buddy has twin 300's on his 27 progression. She does a hair under 100 on a good day. They claim a redline of like 6800? but they say if you want them to live, keep it under 6300. Pretty sweet engines but in less then 100 hours he has blown 3 powerheads.

Ryan,
Are all the boats that you see with these motors bright yellow? The TEST Boats are yellow and run up and down the lake as well as from Placida Florida to Englewood FL and back; My good friend drives for them and does their deep water testing; In Fact, they are in the process of closing that test center and taking it to the FL panhandle of FLA since they sold the land etc in Placida. They used to do a lot of Whaler and Boat House Bulletins out of there. No longer doing BHB due to cost.

Actually, the lake is in Florida...I forget where though.

Near Kissimmee (not far from Cypress Gardens actually); its not that big of a secret, they have 200 MPH boats out there..The 300 X is their latest and may be on their website, its been announced for about a year now

300x has been around since 1999, maybe even 98.

"Lake X" is near St Cloud, FL (southeast of Orlando about 25 miles). It is close to the intersection of Route 15 and Route 192. I believe it's really called Alligator Lake.

It is in St.Cloud and I think Alligator lake is nearby. My dad's company set up a trade show at lake X a few years ago- it's supposed to be a few miles down a 1 lane road. My dad got yelled at by the security guard for doing 100 or so in his vette. Was told a lot of critters come out on that road at night.
