After much deliberation and research I have decided to go ahead and will be putting the new Evinrude E-TEC™ 90 on my Eastport. I had seriously considered all makes since I think they are all good these days but there were two deciding factors. First of all the weight of the engines available. I had some reservations about the new "cleaner" engines and the amount of weight on these older hulls. The E-TEC™ engine comes in at just over 300 pounds. But I would have to say the seller for me was when my mechanic called me and told me that if E-TEC™ engines are purchased from now until I think February Bombardier will include a rebate, or a 7 year warranty. Obviously a 7 year warranty is a no-brainer. The close runner-up was the Merc Optimax 90, a real nice engine. The 7 year warranty was the seller here though. Boat is completely stripped and being refinished now in a friend's garage. We are actually reconditioning two side by side in the same garage, a 67 Nauset and my 65 Eastport. Will send pics if any interest. Martin

The cost for the E-TEC™ installed with gauges was $9k. I have seen some lower prices online, but with gauges, install, and shipping, the small amount I would have saved was not worth it. I have a great mechanic/marina and the little extra money is worth it to me. I will submit pics once installed. Thanks, Martin

Congrats on your new E-TEC™. As far as I know, you are the first forum member to buy one. Please let us know how it performs once you've had some time to run it. It sounds like an ideal motor for the classic 16/17 Whalers.

Thanks for responding. I actually may have the whaler in the water when the engine is mounted early this winter for a test run since the lake(Ontario) nor the St. Lawrence has frozen up yet. Boat is coming along nicely and will keep forum posted. Martin

For more information on the promotion package with warranty or rebate options, see the Evinrude website for details. Hyperlink below.

Where did this term "E-Tec and TRADE" come from?

The term "&Trade" must be UBB code that resolves into the superscript TM symbol. Actually, I was going to ask: why has the Evinrude trademark E-TEC been retrofitted with a TM badge when all other trademarks, such as Mercury, Optimax, Evinrude on this site have not or do not get such treatment.

It's always a good idea to read the fine print. The "7 Year Total Coverage" is 4 additional years after Bombardier's initial 3 warranty years. You pay extra for an extended service protection agreement with a 3rd party marine service provider, not Bombardier. A deductible per service visit is charged. It might be a good deal, depending on the cost and if the service provider is reputable. Anyone have an idea of the cost?

I have noticed that there is marine hardware and metals company that is called E-Tec. They manufactured the rod holders used on my radar arch. This place has been around for sometime. I wonder if there is a copyright infringement here.

I think the author just used some Keyboard shortcuts to put the ™ in the Title.. You are probably aware of many of the other shortcuts also but here are a few.

® = Registered
º = degress
© = Copyright
™ = Trademark

Take a look at the Topic once you push the Post Reply button. For me, the Topic says "E-TEC&trade" rather than "E-TEC (TM) on Eastport". I think that is what Larry is referring to.

If a question mark shows above, then infinity does not show up on this site.... It should be a lazy 8 and shows up on the screen when I type this but did not in the above post...

When I click on "post reply", the topic says E-TEC&trade. That's what I see.
