I have a 2000 18 OUTRAGE which is rated for 200-HP.

I am seriosuly considering replacing my current 2000 150-HP Optimax engine with a 200-HP Optimax. The 225 Opti is the same size, weight etc., but offers the additional 25 hp for just a bit more money. Liabilty issues aside. is there any reason not to go for the additional 25-HP? The boat is so heavy and wide, I can't imagine the additional horsepower will make a big difference and just may help a bit.

I've posted before I'm barely getting 40-MPH out of the boat with the 150 at WOT. After reading some of your responses it seems another couple MPH can probably be had with a prop and/or mounting height change.

Honestly, to me it doesn't sound like a wise idea. The boat went through testing, which is why it has the 200-HP max rating. If you exceed the rating, you could be asking for big trouble, which could mean changes in handling or uncontrollable performance at top end. I'm not you, but these are some of the things I would consider when making the decision

I would not do it. It will void your 10 hull warranty.

Thanks guys. Both are VERY good points and when I combine them with the added trouble of trying to find someone to rig the boat with a motor too just seems like it's not worth the trouble for 25-HP.

Guess I'll just keep the extra grand in my pocket.

Twentyfive horswpower won't make a big difference except in the gas you burn. They don't call them 2-thirsty-5's for nothing.

I'm not an engine wiz, but maybe yours isn't set up right. I have an 1982 18 OUTRAGE--lighter than yours, maybe that's why--with the 1983 Johnson V-4 140, and I hit 40-MPH (although I don't like to leave it there too long:-)
