Can anyone help me with any details as to when the OMC cross flow motors were ended and the loopers started in the 150 class to the 225 class. I think it was in the eighties, but I am not sure. How can one tell the difference with the hood off.

I have an 88 150, a neighbor has a 86 225. Decal patterns are very similar. Do we both have loopers?

I think OMC introduced the loop charged 200 and 225 (big 90 degree V6 block) in either in 1985 or 1986. I believe OMC introduced the loop charged 150 and 170 (small 60 degree V6 block) in 1991.

Your neighbor has a loop charged V6 and you have a cross-flow V6.

For a comparitive reference, the Mercury 60 degree V-6 loop charged block came out in 1976, patent expired 14 years later.
