First of all--Hi all!
I'm Italian and so sorry for my poor english.
The most important I'm a BW fan since I was 2 years old and spent my sumer time with my father on his 17 montauk of the early 70's...
I owned a 15 sport, and a 18 OR; now I've bought a OUTRAGE 25.
The boat came from US, since I've a friend dealer who buy boats there and imports, restores and sells them here.
So I think I will need much help from you all to set my new OUTRAGE 25 the most "original" it's possibile.
The first questions:
1) I have to repower the boat. I found in the forums and references many topics on it and my options are now:
2x150 Mercury Optimax
2x200 Mercury Optimax
2x150 Yamaha HPDI
2x150 Yamaha 4-stroke
I'd like to reach a max speed of 40-kn, so I'd like to know if the twin 150 option is enough for the goal (the boat doesn't have WD).
Well..I think I asked enough for 1st time ... thank u all and stay tuned ... if u want to help a so far BW friend!:)

The Optimax 150 or its larger variant Optimax 175 (2.5-litre block) is a nice motor for your application. It is noticeably smaller than the Optimax 200 (3.0-litre block).
Welcome to the forum.

Ector, welcome to our site.
You certainly have come to the right site for your information.
I am also Italian, [ Sicillian ].
You seem to have left out one very good engine in your thoughts, it's the Evinrude, do not under estimate it.
You must try & convert your kn to miles per hour or knots, as many of us may have a difficult time trying to figure what 40 kn is in mph [ miles per hour ].
It would make things easier if you learned mph instead of maybe 100 of us trying to learn kns.
What part of Italy are you from ?

Sal: 1Kn=1.15mph ---> 40kn=46mph; I'm from Naples;
Jimh: no counterrotating on 175 :(
both: in Italy motors prices are much higher than there....
Look at this prices (the best i could get after a long investigation around the dealers):

ehm... i forgot to tell u of the gas price here...(and so why i didn't consider 2 stroke carb)
1lt= 1,150 euros....

At €1.15 per liter, that is €4.35 per us gallon or $5.27 per gallon. Yikes.

I´ve a 25 outrage and considered the very same thing with repower, initian engine and fuel cost. Anyway, I decided with 2x115´s four stroke (Mercs) the boat´s full speed is 38 knots. (40 only once, light load) the fuel consuption with a 100 nautical mile trip, 8 hours trolling and 3 1/2 hours cruising @ 23 knots is 140 litres.
Welcome to the forum!

well thank u everybody ... i think this site is really great!
before posting on the repower doubt i have, i read carefully many topics on it.
I found most different opinions and now i think:
- i won't a single unit adjustment (and i think the performance of a single 225 can't be really what i read...i have a robalo 2320 with a single 225 john and it's just enough power to have decent performances; mayube on the 25 OR a single 250, nothing less...);
- i'd like to power it with a 2*200 but this is out of my budget;
- actually 2*150 is not underpowered: it's just not a rocket....but it match with my budget :P
- i'm in doubt about the performance of the 2*115...they seem to be a little small for the 25 hull...
In these considerations i've considered that:
I read the max hp admitted without WD should be 300hp; here in Italy the most common is 2*200 / 2*225, with or without WD (the most don't have). So i feel a bit afraid of underpowering using 2*150...maybe i just need somebody who have them installed saying to me: ehy guy...the boat goes really nice, get out of the hole in 3 seconds and with no regard of the sea conditions....anybody would tell me? :)
If i'm wrong i would know your opinions (surfing the pages of the site i saw there are very many experts whalerists here).

Welcome to the forum. You english is just fine, so don't worry.
As a comparison, a good friend of mine has a 25' Revenge Walk-Through (a heavier boat than yours) and with two people, full tank and standard accessories he can reach high 40's / low 50's (about 80km)
As for Mills canvas, go to their website at:
I found that you can send an email to:
She may be able to help with your questions about the possibility of shipping the canvas to you.

Welcome, my parents get over your way every once in a while. I just sold my 25' Outrage (had it for 8 years) with twin 150 Mercury's. My hull was a 1984 model, no bottom paint, no t-top, and was the notched transom design. The two stroke carberated 150's with Mercury high-five propellers (19" pitch) pushed my old boat quite well. With a light load she would do 49 knots. The best part about this set up in my opinion was the fact that she would get on plane around 2,500 r.p.m. and not break loose in a 4' following sea. I too rarely ran her offshore without full tanks, 3-4 guys, gear, food, and beverages; needless to say she always performed well and had plenty of power.

Why not consider the Optimax? It is supposed to be more powerful as the 4 stroke and more fuel efficient than the 2-stroke and even some 4 stroke EFI motors...

I've got to know, what did you opt for in the end? I'm over in Cannes, got an Outrage 25'with 2x200 mercs Blackmax's, if you're ever heading north let me know.

at the end .. i ordered 2*150 optimax ... will arrive in 20 days ... and then i'll post my impressions:)
Roc: i suppose cannes is out of the range ... it's at least 500 miles from here!
Maybe if u think u will have a trip in toscany we could meet at half way...

That sounds like a fine idea,I might even be able to persuade a few BW guy's here to to the same! August is a good time to be away from the Cote d'azur, too crowded!
