I have a 1984 18' OR w/ 1984 150 Yamaha. When I took out a new 18' Dauntless this past weekend, I was not impressed with the power out of the hole nor the top end speed. Is it just me, or is the fuel injected Merc sluggish when compared to my older carbed engine?

Any comments appreciated. I am planning to re-power the Outrage soon.

Could it be that the Dauntless weighs 800 lbs more than your Outrage?

Which engine has the quieter running sound?

It is certainly the case that fuel injection benefits fuel consumption rather than outright power in many instances and that running the engine slightly rich will increase torque and hence acceleration.

having injection systems "chipped" produces more power and torque but nearly always poorer fuel economy.

Do we know what we're talking about here at all?

Which 4-stroke, where did this come from?

A brand new Dauntless is not available with a Merc 150 EFI?

We must be talking Optimax 150 DFI here?

On a same boat basis, any brand new Merc 150 EFI will walk from an old 84 Yamaha carbed 150, and be a lot quieter too, with superior fuel mileage.
