My 1974 Katama has the standard pre-smirked 16'7" hull, a 1982 Evinrude 90 HP, and a stainless 17" pitch prop.Using a new GPS, it topped out at 41 MPH with a moderate tailwind, one 205 lb occupant and 6 gals of fuel. Unfortunately, I do not have a tachometer (have one on order), so I only took it to WOT for a few seconds. Acceleration is excellent. Is this top speed consistent for this boat? Richard

No you should be getting at least 50, somethings wrong. No J/K. Thats what I get out of my nauset with a Yamaha 100 Four Stroke. I actually get 42 with the stock prop. I think you are about right. But to be sure you really need a tach. |

Richard,That does not sound bad at all, especially for an older motor. If the motor were new, the boat totally dry, and the bottom perfectly clean you might see upper 40s but not 50 mph. |

I agree with Tom. You wont see 50 mph but maybe 45, depending on how the engine is. Sal |

That's what I was getting out of my 65 16'7" with 82 Johnson and similiar prop. My tach indications varied over three years starting out at 4,900 wot, then indicating high 5000's, but usually showed 5,200 wot. Top speed was almost always 41 mph (gps) at wot regardless of tach indication. Be happy, its an oldie but a goddie. |

41 mph with an Evinrude 1988 88 SPL. Got that when new and I still do. Bottom is as clean as can be. Trailer kept only.41 is right on the money. |
