Gentlemen and others, I'm this close to repowering my 15 modified sport with a new motor. In consideration are the 70 hp Yamaha 2 stroke, the 90 hp 2 stroke yamaha, [to a lesser degree], the 70hp 4 stroke mercury ,and possibly the 50 hp 4 stroke Suzijohn. I prefer 2 strokes but the inevitable ban may come on them. I'm after a very good top speed and could use a kicker if necessary for trolling. Any and all suggestions are welcomed. PS I run at 5 to 7 thousand feet while fishing. Thanks

If you run that high you have ONLY one choice....EFI. Now this can be either 2 or 4 stroke but I think on high elevation lakes and resevoirs, the 2's might have a limited lifespan. I would HIGHLY recommend the Mercury 60 4 stroke EFI. Light weight and EFI. I Love the John/zuki but the 60/70 is TOO heavy and why get a 50 when you can get a Merc 60 if top speed is imortant. The 60 should run 40 if set up right. 50's run about 36.

Big shot, I tend to concur with your choice of the 60 Merc on my 15.4. The mother ship [ Bass Pro] has decided to open a store in Vegas this fall. I believe I might make a run there and leave some money on their table for a new 60 Merc. It will make for a fun trip. Thanks High Sierra
