I remember hearing about a bad year or two for the Evinrude Ficht motors. Like the Optimax, I gather that the Ficht motors are 99% great... what years should I avoid on the Ficht 135/150 motors?

Avoid '97 through 2000 Ficht V6 engines, and 2001 engines that have not been fully upgraded to Bombardier specs.

The V4 engines were not a problem.

You say you like the Optimax, but don't ask what years to avoid that are problem years for the Optimax. Evinrude was awarded JD Powers best 2 stroke engines for 2003. We just traded for a '97 Johnson 150 Ficht that has given 7 years of great service on a Ranger bass boat. One thing for sure, Bombardier has been building great engines since they bought
Evinrude and Johnson.
