Hello all-
I have a 1980 Outrage V22..w/200hp Merc. Even though the merc is in good shape I don't REALLY trust it. I have a 10hp Honda I was thinking of putting on as a kicker just in case...
Any comments or suggestions on power/mounting, etc.

Blue Wine,

Most people mount the kicker directly on the transom if possible. They also mount them on the Starboard side which is preferred. Obviously, if you have something on the Starboard side like I do, then the Port side does work fine.

A Long Shaft (20 inch shaft) is what you want to use. Even a Montauk uses a Long Shaft Kicker.

Here are photos of my Outrage 18 with an 8 HP Evinrude.

I don't know what your transom looks like, but if there isn't room in the motor well for your kicker, check out www.tannermfg.com for mounting brackets for kicker motors on Whalers.

I used one to mount my 8HP Yamaha on my 20' Ventura. Brackets are very well made, and are built with the proper curve to match the curve of the Whaler transom. Motor setback is proper so that it tilts up completely without hitting anything.
