I have a 1971, 13 Sport with a step down transom (15" shaft" I had a 25HP Evinrude on it that I was not too happy with the speed. The transom is curved. I found a 40HP and when placed on the transom, the motor did not mount flush against the transom. Only the edge of the mount butted to the transom. The "newer" models have a straight transom. I was told by a mechanic that this will not work because there is not enough support because of the torque of the motor. I have not purchased the motor yet and would like any suggestions. Also, if anyone has a nice 40-50HP short shaft motor for sale that will work, I would be interested.

also, others have used aluminum angle to run up the outside of the transom and on the inside with the bolts going through both pieces.

Do a search on transom build up and you will find some posts that have different options. I made mine after seeing these options. Very close to the others, but I modified slighlty.
