I'm having a Yamaha f60 installed on my 1985 Sport and need advice on the prop size. The boat will be used for fishing, cruising and skiing. Does anyone have this setup?
While there have been several discussions in the performance forum I did not see anything specific. Any suggestions?

Did you comparison shop a Mercury 60 HP 4-stroke? Same engine as Yamaha (powerhead built by Mercury), but with the considerable advantage of an EFI system instead of carburators.

Accordingly, you might look at mercurymarine.com's prop selector program for help. If you're looking for speed and perfromance, you might consider Mercury's Trophy Sport 4 bladed prop for this gearcase.

Thanks,

i didn't look at the mercury motors.

But, according to Mercury, looks like the 17 pitch is best for overall performance.

I would start with a 15P propeller because the F60 runs through 1.85:1 gears. With a 60 HP motor, the 15 Sport should do about 40 MPH and a 15P will be needed to get the WOT RPMS near 6000.

I have the merc 60hp EFI smallfoot 1.83:1 lower unit onmy 15ft striper(classic hull). I started with a 17" 3 blade aluminum that only gave @5300 RPM with 2 adults and 36mph topend. Switching to mercury stainless 14 inch pitch (10" diameter) cupped prop gives me @ 5900 and 41 MPH. Great hole shot. I imagine a 15 inch pitch stainless would perform similarly as my prop has 'extra' cupping. Hope this helps

Thanks again for the responses. sounds like the 15p will be the ticket.
