I have a 15' rage with the 115 turbojet. How can I boost my power? Someone had told me about changing the prop? What can i do?
I enjoy the boat but if I put 4 adults on it the power sucks.

BCT,

First, welcome to the forum.

Second, Rages are Boston Whaler's red-headed stepchildren and there are many folks on this forum who will tell you, whether you ask or not, what they think of Rages.

Third, over the 6 or 7 years that BW made the Rages, they kept realizing that they were underpowered. They started with a Yamaha 50 hp engine (reliable, parts readily available, but weak), which I have, then moved onto the OMC 115 hp (more powerful (but replacement parts woefully difficult to get) before settling on the Mercury 175 hp engine (very strong engine, but expensive).

So, sub-standard performance is probably something you will have to live with to some extent.

Finally, what is the compression? What is the condition of the boat? Even an adequate size engine will have poor performance if it runs poorly.

If the engine runs well, but you just want better performance, I would try de-carb. Otherwise, I don't know of any "add-ons" to soup it up. And, I don't know of anyone who has increased the size of the engine (say to 130 or 150 hp).

Just an obsevation but you are in a 15' boat. Any 15' boat will suck with 4 adults compared to 1 or 2. If you change impellers(not props), she might go faster but will suck even more with 4 adults. Even my 20' with a 225 sucks with 4 adults compared to 2.

I believe that v4 series of engines peaked at 140hp,but i was told that at that level they didn't live long.In a boat already plauged with overheating problems(omc rages)and powerhead reliability issues,i don't know if i'd go that route either, but i guess it's a option.

Not really much you can do except an impeller change. The 115 turbojet already has the bubble backed exhaust cavity of the 140 hp V-4. You could get some 140hp carbs, shave the heads and change the reeds and you probably wouldn't see that much of a gain. I would start with checking the impeller for wear and then maybe looking into a stainless one.
