jflots	posted 07-29-2004 09:33 AM ET (US)         We had our '98 30hp Merc. serviced 2 weeks ago. 100 hour service that included plugs, gear oil, grease etc. To clean out the carb they used Power Tune, which at first seemed to have smoothed out the idle. Oddly they weren't concerned with the water pump, saying it had a good stream and good temp. Starting out last Sunday the idle seemed off and while on plane the motor died. It started fine and putted arround fine, but back on plane and it died. This happened 4-5 times and then stopped. After that we could the feel a slight difference in power, kind of in and out, both running and putting. Also an occaisional low whistle, like a quiet cricket or frog. The boat had a full tank of gas. Any ideas?
DaveS	posted 08-01-2004 08:19 PM ET (US)             I had a similar problem with a 1996 30hp merc...would go just fine but then it would stumble and stall out...after a while, it really became a problem so I took it to my local dealer who, in about 10 minutes, diagnosed it with water in the fuel...worked fine after that...I'd try running it from a different tank to see how that works...
