I finally got the tach put on the 15" Center Console and got some performance numbers. The prop is a Mercury Laser II 13.5 X 22" pitch. The motor has a gear ratio of 2.3 and shoud run between 4,750 and 5,250 rpm. All speeds are Garmin GPS. The boat was lightly loaded, 175 pound driver, 6 gallons of gas and minimal gear. The engine is mounted in the second hole. It takes 3.5 seconds to come on to a full plane.
It is on plane at 2500 rpm and 19.5 mph. The top speed is 43.2 mph at 4800 rpm. While this calculates to almost 100% efficiency the boat is chine walking like crazy and is a real handful, only controllable due to the power trim.
Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Drop down to a 20 inch pitch. Your pitch is too high. Chine walking begins to happens at speeds over approximately 38 MPH. There is nothing you can do about it other than be careful.
